Mary Eunice Meyers, 72, Lewiston
Mary Eunice Meyers (Proffit), 72, was handed over to her loving savior on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007.
Mary was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Ahsahka, Idaho, to Leonard and Lena Profitt, the second of four children they would have together. She would be destined for quite a colorful and adventurous life, as she had already been stung by a bee on the nose at 3 hours old.
Mary attended school in Ahsahka and high school in Orofino. Mom loved school, she was very good at it. She participated in drama and basketball throughout school. After graduating, Mary worked in Lewiston for a time at a beauty salon where a friend talked her into entering a beauty contest. Mom must not have realized just how beautiful she was because she was astounded and shocked when she took first place. Mary then worked at a bank in Orofino, where she met and married Eugene Meyers in 1956. They went on to have five children, four boys and one girl. As Mom would put it "her five precious babies." She knew all along that her children would bring her the greatest joy and rewarding legacy she would leave behind on this earth. Mary and Eugene divorced in 1971 while living in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Mary then moved to Lewiston with her kids. She worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Meyers, during this time she met and married Joe Zellerhoff, they later divorced. She also worked at A&B Foods and First Security Bank in Lewiston.
Mary enrolled at LCSC at 51 years old in the accounting program. She completed this with a 4.0 GPA. Upon graduation she took a position at West Best in 1989. It was there that she broke her leg. While being treated it was discovered that she had colon cancer. After multiple surgeries and radiation, she was forced into early retirement. During this time she began a friendship with her buddy Butch Presnell that would last for the rest of her life.
Mary loved to camp, snowmobile, garden and when she retired she made beautiful crafts, photo albums and crocheted pieces. Her best known past time was crossword puzzles. Mother was an intelligent lady, there was not a crossword puzzle too challenging for her.
She always had a smile for everyone. Her kind and beautiful heart were such that she was truly loved. What a Lady.
To her family she is loved beyond words, we are truly heartbroken at this huge loss. To us, her strength and passion will never be replaced on this earth. We take great comfort in knowing she is with her loved ones in heaven.

She is survived by her children, David Meyers of Lewiston, Daniel Meyers of Orofino, Brian and wife Georgia Meyers of Cochran, Alberta, Joseph Meyers of Kelowna, B.C., and Evelyn Kirk of Clarkston. Her brothers, Leo and wife Pat Profitt, Virgil Profitt; and sister, Virginia Page; half-sister, Otelia Dickerson; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; half-sisters, Bertha and Ethel; half-brothers, Leonard, Luther Jr., Johnny and Earl.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, 10 a.m. at Merchant's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Teakean Cemetery in Cavendish, a covered-dish get together will be at 3 p.m. at the Lewiston Eagles Lodge to celebrate this remarkable lady's life.
